Football 1X2 Margins: Same Fixtures, Three Crypto Books
We took identical World Cup 1X2 fixtures and priced them at three crypto sportsbooks on the same day. The gap between the cheapest and the most expensive book on the same match was up to 3.6 percentage points of overround.

The same-fixture table
Comparing margins only makes sense on the same event, same market, same day. A book can look cheap on average simply because it lists cheaper leagues. Here are the two fixtures all three books priced on 8 July 2026, plus two Cloudbet-only rows from the same board.

What a 3.6-point spread actually costs you
On France vs Morocco, the gap between Duel (1.74%) and Cloudbet (5.35%) is 3.6 percentage points of overround on the exact same match. The clearest way to feel that number is the breakeven framing from the US standard: at -110/-110 pricing, the book runs a 4.76% overround and your breakeven win rate is 52.38% instead of the fair 50% (BettingUSA benchmark, updated June 2026). Every point of overround pushes that breakeven line further from fair. A bettor who can beat a 1.74% book long-term may be a guaranteed loser at a 5.48% book, holding skill constant. Margin isn't a detail; it's the entire slope of the hill you're climbing.
How we turn 1X2 prices into fair probabilities
A 3-way market complicates the math. Simply dividing each implied probability by the overround (the multiplicative method) assumes the margin is spread evenly across all three outcomes — on 1X2 it usually isn't. Bookmakers load more of it onto the draw and the longshot. For 3-way markets we lean on Shin's method (Shin 1993, The Economic Journal 103, which models margin as a defence against informed money) and the power method, then take the worst-case fair probability as the practitioner convention. Where these numbers sit against the industry
Pinnacle's own 2018 disclosure claimed a 2% soccer moneyline margin against an 8% industry norm, and noted "some bookmakers price markets up to 110%". More recently, an OddsMatrix feed put the 2024/25 season football average at 11.8% (via Casino.Guru). Against that backdrop, every book in our sample is on the cheap side of the industry — but the spread between them still decides who keeps your edge. One outside crypto datapoint for context: h2h.casino (2026, unaudited vendor) measured Stake at 4.1% average on World Cup 1X2, roughly where our Duelbits and Cloudbet rows landed. How do I compare 1X2 prices myself?
Convert each of the three odds to implied probability (1 divided by the decimal price), add them up, and subtract 100%. The remainder is the overround. For a fair-probability estimate on a 3-way market, use Shin or the power method rather than simple division, because the draw tends to absorb a disproportionate share of the margin.
